Misshaped Fruit

Monday, 1st December 2008

Letter to London local newspapers

Dear Editor,

I have written to this paper on a number of occasions to warn readers about the shift in power from ordinary Londoners to bureaucrats in Brussels. Every so often I also have the opportunity to praise the EU for doing someone positive, and the announcement that the ban on misshaped fruit is to be repealed is a very positive thing.

Londoners are all very worried about recent price hikes, especially on food and it's important that political leaders do not interfere to make prices even higher. Whilst some people are willing to pay a premium for produce that EU bureaucrats deem as perfect, many of us are more concerned with good nutrition and value for money than the appearance of our fruit and vegetables.

Let's hope that this outbreak of common sense persists and that farmers will no longer have to throw away perfectly good food which the EU had previously ruled as imperfect.

Yours Sincerely

Syed Kamall MEP
